Used BYD Qin PLUS DM-i Buyer's Guide: Battery, History and Export Checks

| ChinaSupplyChain

A used BYD Qin PLUS DM-i can be an attractive export purchase, but the model name alone is not enough to judge a particular car. Model year, trim, battery condition, mileage and repair history can materially change value. The checks below help an overseas buyer turn a listing into a verifiable purchase.

Model-reference note: official BYD pages describe the model family and technology. Specifications vary by model year and market, so they must not be treated as the specification of a specific used vehicle.

1. Confirm the exact identity of the car

Request a clear VIN photo, registration information, model year, trim, first-registration date and current odometer reading. Match those details with the vehicle labels and export documents. Ask whether the car has finance, ownership or insurance restrictions that could delay export.

2. Check the high-voltage battery and hybrid system

A professional diagnostic scan should be part of the inspection. Ask for battery state-of-health information where available, warning-code history, charging test results and photos of the battery underbody area. Check for impact damage, coolant leaks, corrosion and signs of non-standard electrical repair. Real electric-only range depends on battery condition, temperature, route, speed and trim; a brochure figure is not a guarantee for a used car.

3. Review maintenance and cold-start behaviour

Service invoices and digital records help confirm mileage and maintenance intervals. During a cold start, listen for abnormal engine noise and verify that no warning lamps remain on. Test the vehicle in electric, hybrid and regenerative-braking operation. Inspect the 12-volt battery, fluids, air-conditioning, charging port and both charging and vehicle keys.

4. Inspect accident and wear items

Use a paint-depth meter across the body and inspect structural seams, glass dates, airbags, seat belts and underbody mounting points. Uneven panel gaps, fresh sealant or localized paint thickness may justify a closer structural check. Also record tyre date codes, tread depth, wheel damage, brake condition, steering play and suspension noise.

5. Verify export compatibility before payment

Confirm left- or right-hand drive requirements, charging-connector compatibility, destination homologation, customs rules, spare-parts access and local service support. Ask for a landed-cost estimate that separates vehicle price, inland transport, inspection, export documents, ocean freight, insurance, duties and destination fees.
