How to Source Unique Products from China: A Practical Guide for Small B2B Buyers
| ChinaSupplyChain
Finding a product in China is easy when the specification is standard. The harder task is sourcing a distinctive item from a photo, short video, sample or incomplete idea. For small B2B buyers, the process becomes more reliable when the request is translated into clear commercial requirements.
Start with a sourcing brief
Include the product reference, expected quantity, target market, required materials, customization, target price and delivery country. A complete brief helps a China sourcing partner compare suitable manufacturing routes instead of returning unrelated listings.
Separate product price from total landed cost
Unit price is only one part of a quotation. Ask about sample cost, mold or artwork fees, packaging, inspection, international freight, taxes and duties. This is especially important for low-MOQ or custom orders.
Verify before placing a bulk order
Confirm dimensions, materials, color, labeling and packaging in writing. When practical, approve a sample before production. Product photos are useful references but should not replace an agreed specification.
When a sourcing service makes sense
A sourcing service is helpful for culturally specific products, small-batch customization, regional specialties and items that are difficult to search by English name. It can also help when several factories or processes must be coordinated.
